Invent the Future Program 2024

When: Mon, 12-Aug-2024 - Fri, 23-Aug-2024

Invent the Future 2024: An artificial intelligence-focused summer program for Grade 7-9 students

Artificial intelligence (AI) has become an integral part of our daily lives, from digital voice assistants to self-driving cars, and more recently, in the form of advanced chatbots like ChatGPT. Invent the Future is a week-long summer program that aims to empower students with foundational AI and machine learning knowledge, facilitate meaningful discussions on the social implications of AI and address algorithmic bias, and engage students in hands-on coding activities. On the final day of the program, students will present their work to their peers, program instructors, and family members, and celebrate their accomplishments!

Things to know before registering

CIFAR Inclusive AI Scholarship

To lower barriers to participation of Black and Indigenous students, the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR) will cover the full program fee (i.e., $385) of self-identified Black and Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit, or Métis) students who register for the SFU Invent the Future program. If you are eligible for this scholarship, please fill out the scholarship form below.

Please do not register for the program before submitting a scholarship application. We aim to respond to your scholarship application within two weeks. Upon completion of the program, CIFAR will also issue scholarship recipients a notice of award, which they can put it on their curriculum vitae. The last day to submit a scholarship application is Sunday, July 28 at 11:59 pm PT.

Faculty of Applied Sciences Bursary Program

We are committed to making our programs accessible to as many youth as possible by offering bursaries to subsidize program fees. To be considered, please fill out the bursary form below. We also ask that parents/guardians apply for bursaries based on their current needs. These bursaries enable us to extend our reach to youth who may otherwise be unable to participate in our programs due to financial barriers.

Please do not register for the program before submitting a bursary application. We aim to respond to your bursary application within two weeks and may request a copy of your most recent notice of assessment for verification purposes. The last day to submit a bursary application is Sunday, July 28 at 11:59 pm PT.
