Ride Description: The Thunder Lake ride has been going almost since the club's inception. It is a long, leisurely ride from Onoway to Thunder Lake and back. We drive to Onoway on Saturday morning, park at the Petro Canada where we leave our vehicles in a locked yard, then cycle 88 km west and north at a relaxed pace (18-20 km/hr) with three rest stops. There will be a sweep. The coordinators organize meals. At lunch in Cherhill, the fastest riders set out sandwich fixings. We camp overnight at the Thunder Lake Provincial Park campground in a large group site. A tent, sleeping bag, etc. is required. Ribs and corn on the cob are on the menu for supper. Swimming is available depending on algae conditions. Saturday supper is mostly pre-prepared, but volunteer help will be solicited.
On Sunday, coffee and a light snack will be provided to get you to Barrhead where we buy our own breakfast at the A&W. There will be one last rest stop with snacks, and we're usually done between 2 and 3 PM.
On Sunday we ride 78 km east to Barrhead for breakfast, a lunch/snack break in Rich Valley, then ride south to Onoway,. The ride is van-supported and the cost is $110, plus money for coffee (and pie?) in Alberta Beach, ice cream when you arrive at the campground, a loonie for a shower, and breakfast at A&W in Barrhead on Sunday.
