We're going to Drumheller again with 3 days of riding and a theatre experience at the Rosebud Opera House.
We will have daily “out and back rides” (hub and spoke format) with meet-up points along the route. This is a no-drop ride, but there will be no sag wagon available. Participants should be intermediate/advanced cyclists as we will encounter long and steep climbs out of the Drumheller valley. In addition, we will be in a rural setting for most of each day. Pedal assist e-bikes are encouraged for anyone uncomfortable with the average speed of 18-22 km/hr.
ITINERARY:
Day 1 Friday May 22: 36km Horseshoe Canyon and back, 223m elevations gain (individual self guided option to Rosebud loop ride 70km)
Day 2 Saturday May 23: 50 km Dino Trail Route, 400m elevation gain over two climbs
5:30-10:15pm Rosebud Theatre “Hurry Hard” (optional)
Day 3 Sunday May 24: 46 km Hoodoos and Wayne Last Chance Saloon for lunch.
(individual self guided option to East Coulee before lunch)
Bike: Road bike and pedal assist e-bikes are welcome. (no throttle e-bikes as per EBTC policy)
Expected average speed: 18 to 22 km/hour with some long and steep climbs.
Road Conditions: All routes are on paved roads except Day #3 has a short portion of gravel (approx. 500m) near the Bleriot Ferry rest area.
Rides planned are in the 36 to 70 km range with total elevation gains of up to 400m. If the conditions (weather, smoke) are not suitable for cycling, cyclist may choose to explore. Drumheller is home to the Tyrrell Museum and boasts many other tourist attractions nearby. Accommodations and food are the responsibility of cyclists and are to be reserved and paid by participants (i.e. hotels, camp site, B&B, snacks and meals).
An optional group evening dinner for cyclists and non-cyclists alike is scheduled for Friday, May 22. Additionally, there will be an optional group lunch at the Wayne Saloon at 1:00pm on Sunday, May 24. Participants are responsible for paying for their own food and drinks.
Rosebud Theatre: Saturday, May 24 evening performance (&buffet):
Participants have the option of purchasing tickets for the last performance of "Hurry Hard" at the Rosebud Dinner Theatre. Dinner starts between 5:30 and 6:30 and is served until 7:30pm. The show starts at 8 pm and runs until about 10:15. The theatre is about 28km (30-minute drive) from Drumheller. Tickets are $95-$100 per person including a buffet supper. Non-cycling participants are invited to attend the lunch, supper, and theatre events.
