Green Roofs on the Canadian Prairies with Gord MacKay, Terrestrial Restoration Specialist
This presentation examines the practical realities of green roof systems in a climate defined by extreme temperature shifts, strong winds, and long winters.  Presented by Gord MacKay, Native Upland Specialist with Native Plant Solutions, this session explores how prairie-adapted vegetation and regional microclimates influence system selection and long-term needs.  Gord brings extensive expertise in native plant species and their site-specific performance, grounded in years of developing revegetation methodologies across the Prairies.

Attendees will learn about growing media and plants tailored to harsh prairie conditions.  The seminar will also highlight lessons learned from real-world projects, identifying common challenges and providing guidance for architects, building envelope specialists, and spec writers seeking resilient and sustainable green roof outcomes.  This presentation equips participants with technical understanding to integrate green roofs into projects across Western Canada.
