Ride Description:

Come finish your road bike cycling season off with a 12-day trip at the end of September that makes its way down the scenic Oregon Coast Bike Route. Our cycling journey begins in Astoria, Oregon, and follows the Pacific coastline, heading through the Redwoods (Avenue of the Giants) and we finish with cycling across the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco completing approximately 1257 km.

Participants will make their own way to the Portland airport on September 16 and will be transported to Astoria. The bikes will be transported down in an enclosed trailer. We will be shuttled to the route starting point. There will be two support vehicles to transport luggage, provide snacks/ lunch, and aid as needed to riders. We will finish the route in San Francisco with a night in a hotel and a final celebration dinner. Riders will be responsible for finding their own way home for themselves or maybe you want to hang out longer and check out San Francisco. The routes are available on “ridewithgps”.

Please note: Everyone arriving by plane (WJ that arrives at 11:21) can board the shuttle that departs shortly after noon. We should arrive in Astoria by 2:30-3:00 so people will have time to test bikes, and if necessary, there is a bike shop nearby.

Make sure your passport is current.

Accommodations:
Double occupancy hotel rooms. Rooms will be shared by couples or same-gender singles. Please indicate if you are a couple when signing up. I will try to match singles to a roommate.

Riding:
This is a Challenging ride as we will average 105 km per day with a max of 130 km in one day, with two 400M good climbs. E-bikes are welcome, and extra batteries can be placed in one of the two support vehicles. This is a recreational ride so a pace of 18km is all that is expected. You will be riding from hotel to hotel.

There will be two support vehicles leap-frogging each other along the way, carrying your luggage and what you will need for the day.

Fees Include:

  • Transportation from Portland airport to Astoria
  • Transportation of bikes to Portland/Eureka and back from San Francisco
  • Cargo trailer for moving luggage each day and for transporting bikes
  • Most hotels include a hot breakfast, not just continental, laundry is also available at all hotels
  • I will make sure hotels are always within walking distance of restaurants for supper

Fees do not include:

  • Participants will be responsible for getting to Portland (contact me for flight information)
  • Participants will be responsible for getting to San Francisco airport or however they what to return
  • Suppers are not included

There will be a trip planning meeting for registered participants approximately two to three weeks before trip departure. More detailed information will be shared at that time. Date to be determined.
